Eigenleben – A Life of its Own

Andrea was born in Kirikiriroa Hamilton in 1958.

Between 1990 and 1999 she completed a Certificate in Craft Design at the Waikato Institute of Technology, a Batchelor of Fine Arts at Auckland University, and a Master of Fine Arts at RMIT, Melbourne, Australia.

Following a residency at the Sarjeant Gallery’s Tylee Cottage, Whanganui in 2004 Andrea moved permanently to Whanganui.

An established sculptor turned ceramist, Andrea began working with clay several years ago and has exhibited widely throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.  She has been included in Portage Ceramic Award exhibitions, twice receiving Merit awards and in the 2017 exhibition she was awarded a residency in Guldagergaad, Denmark. She has been a finalist in numerous Wallace Art Awards and in 2018 was awarded the Wallace Arts Trust Vermont Residency, USA.

Andrea has spent many years lecturing in art and design and currently teaches at UCOL, Whanganui. In 2021 she became a Trustee of the Rick Rudd Foundation. In 2022 she was a demonstrator at Clay Gulgong, Australia. She also received one of two, 2022 Blumhardt Foundation Gifts.
