Laurie Steer
Laurie was born in Mount Maunganui in 1977.
He first began working with clay in 2004. It was while completing his Master of Art & Design from Auckland University of Technology that he began working with Barry Brickell. Laurie also completed a Diploma of Sustainable Practice from Otago Polytechnic in 2009.
Barry Brickell became a mentor to Laurie and, in turn, Laurie has been very involved with various aspects of the organisation of Driving Creek, including eighteen months as Chair of the Driving Creek Railway Art and Conservation Trust.
Laurie began exhibiting ceramics in 2006 and since then has exhibited regularly often with artists in other media; Tony de Lautour, Bill Hammond, Saskia Leek, Francis Upritchard, David Cauchi, and Peter Peryer are just a few.
